Now, it provides tangible tools to build equitable hiring practices and empathetic, inclusive cultures when they’re needed most.

Involvement

The Brief

Together Forward @Work is a SHRM-led initiative aimed at addressing racial inequity in the workplace through open dialogue, education, and actionable resources. The website serves as a digital hub for this initiative, offering tools, stories, data, and best practices to help organizations build inclusive, empathetic, and equitable work environments. This brief guides the development and evolution of the site’s content, user experience, and design to ensure it delivers on the initiative’s mission and impact.

My Approach

The logo should visually express the initiative’s mission—progress toward workplace equity—by using a forward-facing arrow as the central design element. This arrow symbolizes momentum, action, and a collective step forward, aligning directly with the “Together Forward” name. The use of a black and orange color palette reinforces the tone of urgency, seriousness, and determination, while still maintaining visual clarity and energy.

The Results

The Together Forward @Work campaign sparked national engagement around racial equity in the workplace, drawing widespread participation from HR professionals and business leaders. Thousands of organizations adopted SHRM’s tools and resources to create more inclusive, empathetic, and equitable work environments. As a result, companies reported tangible cultural shifts, improved hiring practices, and stronger employee dialogue around diversity and inclusion.
